    A note before we begin.

    The Wednesday One Thing has always had one job: to inform. Not to tell you you're wrong, not to tell you how to vote, and not to take a side. The moment you name one party or one person, half the room stops listening and starts getting mad — and that's never been the point of this.

    So let me be clear about today. This isn't about who's right, who's to blame, or which side you're on. It's simply this: something significant happened — a change to how our own government defines something that goes into our bodies — and I think everyone, no matter where they stand, deserves to know it happened. What you believe about it, and who you trust, is entirely yours to decide. I'm just here to make sure you know.

    The Wednesday One Thing: When the Definition Changed

    For as long as any of us have been alive, a "vaccine" meant one simple thing: it made you immune. You got the shot, and you didn't get the disease. That wasn't just how we all understood it — it was the government's own official definition. For years, the CDC defined a vaccine this way:

    "A product that stimulates a person's immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from that disease."

    Read it again: produce immunity… protecting the person from that disease. That was the standard.

    Then, in September 2021, the CDC quietly changed it to this:

    "A preparation that is used to stimulate the body's immune response against diseases."

    Look at what's different. "Produce immunity" became "stimulate an immune response." And the phrase "protecting the person from that disease" — the heart of the old definition — was removed entirely. Under the old wording, a shot that didn't keep you from getting sick didn't quite qualify. Under the new one, it only has to prompt your body to respond.

    The definition of a vaccine — a word that has meant the same thing for generations — was changed. By the government. For something we put in our bodies.

    That is a big thing.

    What came out later

    For a long time, publicly questioning whether the shots actually stopped infection could get your post removed or your account suspended. Facebook alone reported taking down 18 million pieces of COVID content it labeled misinformation. But what surfaced afterward is the bigger story — because of who turned out to be involved.

    Mark Zuckerberg — Meta's CEO — has said the government pressured his company to censor Americans, and that he regrets it. In an August 2024 letter to Congress, he wrote that senior government officials "repeatedly pressured" Meta "for months" to take down certain COVID content, "including humor and satire," and that he believes the pressure "was wrong." In January 2025, on Joe Rogan's podcast, he went further, describing officials who would "scream" and "curse" at his employees to remove posts — including things that were true — and calling it "something out of 1984."

    The "Twitter Files" — the company's own internal records, released in late 2022 after Elon Musk bought the platform, to journalists including Matt Taibbi — revealed a standing channel between federal agencies and the company for flagging posts and accounts, including COVID content. The reporting also showed the FBI reimbursed Twitter about $3.4 million for the staff time it spent processing the government's requests.

    Matt Taibbi, one of the reporters who broke the Twitter Files, had an IRS agent show up at his home — on the very day he testified to Congress about government censorship. The congressional committee called it possible intimidation; the IRS said it was an unrelated tax matter. Decide for yourself what the timing means.
